Diary of an Artist— Abby Buchmiller.

March 27, 20243 min read

She is not only an artist for technology, she is also an influencer. From coal mining to technology, she is purely a creator. One of the most tenacious female entrepreneurs in the solar space.

Abby Buchmiller

Abigail Buchmiller, the youngest among seven siblings, grew up immersed in the wilds of Alaska. Raised in a family with a background in coal mining, she views it as a pivotal influence in her life, instilling values of hard work and resilience. Drawing lessons from her father’s experiences, including business setbacks, she learned invaluable skills in overcoming obstacles and adapting to challenges.

At the age of 21, Abby embarked on a business venture with her father in the oil fields, despite feeling like a novice entrepreneur. Over the next decade, they toiled tirelessly together, accumulating two decades of contracting experience. In 2017, she took a bold step into the solar industry, joining Empire Solar and swiftly propelling the company to a staggering $250 million valuation. As CEO, she spearheaded their dealer program until the unfortunate collapse of the company in 2021.

HERE IS WHERE MOST PEOPLE FAIL:

When things get tough, most people quit. In many cases, people may struggle to develop effective strategies for overcoming obstacles. They may feel stuck or unable to find viable solutions, leading to frustration and ultimately, failure. Not Abby. She was determined to find a way out.

Undeterred by the setback, Abigail transitioned into the tech sector, founding RDCL in the same year. Within their inaugural year, RDCL exceeded $1 million in revenue by revolutionizing the field labor market. Known for her ability to expedite processes, she developed a mobile application that streamlines operations, providing companies with a comprehensive solution. Their software facilitates seamless transitions from sales to installation permits, saving clients and companies both time and money while alleviating stress.

I developed enough confidence to be dangerous.

Who do you look up to?

My dad.

What did you learn the most from him?

You can’t keep me down.

What makes the relationship so special?

I love his insane grit and nerve to go from nothing to something.

Fast forward to 2024, Abby has launched her own Podcast: Blind Ambitions. Married to her business partner Steve of 20 years.

She believes in:

Designing a Built in Purpose > Understanding the built-in purpose of something can help in utilizing it effectively or appreciating its value. It’s a fundamental concept in design, engineering, and philosophy, as it raises questions about intentionality, functionality, and meaning.

Shaping the Future > Grassroots movements, community organizations, and civil society groups can influence the future by mobilizing people around shared goals and values. They advocate for social justice, human rights, environmental conservation, and other causes that shape the direction of society.

Finding Fast Track Opportunities > Engaging with fast track opportunities can expand one’s network and connections within a particular field or industry. Building relationships with mentors, colleagues, and influencers who are also pursuing fast track paths can provide valuable support, guidance, and opportunities for collaboration.
